Tile is a great product to use for many reasons, it is durable, it will not scratch, etch, burn, melt, or even show wear patterns. Tile can be used for designing a space and used as a non-combustible material for added safety. International Code Council(IRC) requires non-combustible material at least 6 inches away from the opening of a fireplace, (some states require 16 inches) since tile will not burn this is a great way to add a designer touch to you fireplace while maintaing high safety standards. Tile fireplace remodels can turn a a dull fireplace into the focal point of the room with beautiful craftsmanship. Although most say fireplace should be the focal point of a room, it is not always true; such as corner fireplace. Besides insets, medallions are another great way to customize your floor. Medallions can be square, but most that I have installed are circular and range for small 1' to 6' in diameter. Flooring design elements like color can change the feel of a room. Lighter colors of flooring can add a airy or open feeling, while warm tone flooring can make it feel more cosier. With many styles, color, texture, and size flooring is very influential to the design aspect of a room.
